Noblesville High School is an institution rich in history that has grown to be the modern big high school that it is today. The Black and the Gold. To the thousands of students that have passed through the hallways of Noblesville High School and to the fine teachers and administrators that were also there. Noblesville High School is rich in both athletic and academic accomplishments. Noblesville High School is a place where the yearbook is called “The Shadow”. It has been called “The Shadow” for as far back as anyone can remember.
In the beginning, all children in the Noblesville area attended separate schools that were held in log cabins. It appears that the first school in the town of Noblesville was conducted by R.L. Hannaman in a log cabin on the corner of Maple Avenue and Eighth Street. very first noblesville school
First School The first Noblesville school was established in 1870. At that time, all Noblesville students attended school in the same building; however, there was now a curriculum established for the high school. This school was called the Seminary School and was located on south 10th St., between Hannibal & Division Street. It later became Second Ward School, which served as the Jr. High and also was an elementary school for area children. It is now a park called Seminary Square.
On December 14, 1900, Noblesville proudly dedicated its first new separate High School located on Conner Street. A second building housing a gymnasium added to Noblesville High School that was dedicated on December 17, 1923 However, due to the school spirit and the effects of a growing town, many of the basketball games and larger school events were held at the National Guard Armory when it was located on Logan Street. That school served as the high school for the next 55 years. When a new high school was needed, the school became Noblesville Jr. High. The school was later sold to the Boys and Girls Club. The original NHS gym still exists today as part of the Boys and Girls Club. 1900 School
1955 school By the early 1950’s, Noblesville had outgrown the school and needed a larger high school. In 1955, a new high school was dedicated. It was built on part of the Essig farm located on east Conner Street. It remained the high school for 41 years. The rich traditions continued at the new school. It boasted about its’ top notch vocational program and its’ academic program through those years. The school had an entire wing devoted to vocational arts. A state of the art auditorium was added as part of an expansion that took place in 1973. In all, the high school was expanded four times to accomodate an ever rising student population and a growing curriculum. Today it serves as the site of Noblesville Middle School.

In 1996, Noblesville opened its’ new state-of-the-art facility that is located on Cumberland Road. In only 8 years, Noblesville has outgrown the new high school.

It was announced this year that a freshman campus is going to be added to the school system. In the near future, N.H.S. will be just sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Even in all it's changes, many of the traditions found throughout the history of N.H.S. can still be found today.
